Here's
a posting by Barry Ritholtz that hits the bull's eye:
Between Summers and Geithner, it appears that President Obama has made the exact same mistake that one George W. Bush did: Instead of filling his administration’s most important posts with his own people, he reached back to prior admins (Cheney, Rumsfeld, etc) and loaded up on incompetent retreads.
Supposedly Obama is a smart guy, but smart people catch on when what they intend to do doesn't match with what's happening. So we have some choices:
- Obama isn't as smart as people think he is.
- Obama never seriously intended to fix the economy since he is a pawn of Wall Street and is simply doing their bidding.
- Obama would like to fix the economy but his attention has wandered.
I think the answer is "
all of the above". I think Obama is clever but not deeply smart. I think Obama pretended to run on a "people's platform" and his history as a "community organizer" but in his heart-of-hearts he has sold out for fame, glory, and money under the table. I do believe that Obama thinks he is "on the side of the people" but he has deluded himself to his real motives and to how deeply sold out he truly is.
