Fanaticism and Honesty

I have a hard time accepting two facts that don't add up.

Moslems claim they have an honourable religion, but at the same time they put forward views and attitudes that are completely hypocritical:
  • They assure us it is sacriligious to attack and kill innocents. They tell us that their mosques are holy sites to be honoured and that their founder, Mohammed, deserves special respect.

  • But most of the mosques blown up in Iraq and Pakistan were done by one Moslem group attacking another.

  • These groups blow up innocents with glee and abandon:
Ninety-three people are confirmed dead after the bombing in Lakki Marwat, and daylight has exposed the true horror, says a BBC correspondent.

Police say old people and children were watching the game when the bomber drove his vehicle onto the field.

It was the deadliest attack since a Peshawar bombing in October killed 120.
  • They foam at the mouth over cartoons poking fun at their hypocrisy and have attacked embassies and rioted (see here). They want to kill over drawings but accept the loathesome murder of 90+ innocents as acceptable. The hypocrisy is simply incredible. Here is the latest attack on the cartoonists:
Danish police have shot and wounded a man at the home of Kurt Westergaard, whose cartoon depicting the Prophet Muhammad sparked an international row.

Mr Westergaard scrambled into a panic room at his home in Aarhus after a man wielding an axe and a knife broke in.

Danish officials said the intruder was a 28-year-old Somali, who they did not name, but said was linked to the radical Islamist al-Shabab militia.

The cartoon, printed in 2005, prompted violent protests the following year.
With fanatics like these, words and reasoning won't work. What I can't understand is why the majority of Moslems -- who aren't fanatics -- don't have the courage to stand up and say 'enough!' This is like the German people under the Nazis. Why didn't they stand up and say 'enough!'. I do see the Iranian people trying to stand up and say 'enough!' of Ahmadinejad and Khamenei. I did see the American people stand up and say 'enough!' in 2006 and 2008 elections to toss out the fanatical neo-cons and Bush. But a lot more people need to stand up and make know their abhorrence for the fanaticism that eats away at our civilization.
