When the Poll Tolls

Here is a NY Times poll on raising taxes on the rich...

I can't get the John Donne phrase out of my mind...
Any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in Mankinde; And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; It tolls for thee.
In this case, the poll tolls.

I'm guessing that the Reagan revolution that created the Guilded Age II is going to be swept away by this new age. A new age that questions the entitlement of the rich feasting on executive salaries that went from 25:1 to 500:1 ratios (working people's salaries to CEOs from 1970s to 2000s) while the corporations they ran looted the country and created the current economic collapse.

The tolling will be painful, but the trickle down promised by Reagan was painful as well. Life is an on-going adjustment to an onrushing "new" reality. One of the strengths of Americans is that they usually quickly shoulder necessary whatever adjustments are necessary and then march on without a lot of soul searching or disruptions to the social contract.
