Health Care Facts

The BBC has an article that gives some basic facts about health care around the world. This graph makes it pretty obvious that the US system is broken and needs to be fixed:

Only the fanatical ideologue can look at the costs of the US system and the poor results and claim that "American has the best health care system in the world". That is seriously deluded. But I'm being convinced more and more each day that nearly half the American population is seriously deluded and completely uninterested in facts or reality:
  • The US system costs nearly twice as much per capita and it has worse outcomes than any other developed country!

  • Even more damning, it is a heartless system that leaves a large portion of the population outside the system fending for themselves.

  • Even sillier: it deludes itself into thinking that it doesn't pay for those with no insurance. It does because hospitals have to treat those on death's door and that cost is added into the cost of those who pay their own way.

  • Even more deluded: most Americans think the government is not involved in "health care" when in fact the government provides nearly half the health care insurance in the country!
