How Do You Get to the Truth?

Here is a disturbing story. A military lawyer says the US is slow to release Guantanamo detainees because they want to cover-up the torture. She says that the US continues to detain not for "national security" but for "national embarrassment":

The really disturbing thing for me is that "charges are dropped" but there is no explanation of the torture and no indication by the US of the guys status. This is like a jail opening its doors and letting a convicted murderer out without explaining why. The supporters tell us he was innocent all along. Others say he is a heinous killer. Who do you believe? Well, actions speak louder than words. If the guy were a crazed killer, they wouldn't let him out.

So, the US has released a "terrorist" they tortured but won't discuss him or what he has done. That shouts out to me that the poor guy was innocent all along. The real crime becomes one of a legal system that refuses to address what went wrong.
